When fashion becomes culture

When people think about fashion, they often imagine the final result: a beautifully tailored jacket, a dress displayed in a boutique window or a carefully curated collection.

What we rarely see is everything that comes before.

Months of research, creative experimentation, textile development, craftsmanship and countless decisions shape every collection long before it reaches a boutique. By the time a client steps inside a luxury store, they are encountering the final chapter of a much longer story.

This thought stayed with me after attending an event hosted by Antonio Marras in Venice.

It was not simply a presentation of a collection. The boutique became a place where fashion, theatre and art naturally came together. Actors from the stage production Amadeus, wearing costumes designed by Antonio Marras, moved among the guests, creating an atmosphere that felt intimate, cultural and deeply human.

Rather than separating fashion from the arts, the evening celebrated the connections between them.

This has always been one of the qualities I admire most in Antonio Marras. His work is rooted in storytelling. His collections draw inspiration from literature, memory, painting, theatre and the traditions of Sardinia, creating garments that carry emotion as much as design.

What impressed me even more was seeing him interact with his clients.

Throughout the evening, he was present in the boutique, listening, observing and personally helping people discover pieces that suited them. It was a reminder that luxury is not simply about owning something beautiful. It is about feeling welcomed, understood and becoming part of a story.

As a Private Style Curator, moments like these reinforce what I believe styling should be.

My work begins only after an extraordinary chain of creativity has already taken place. Designers have imagined the collection, artisans have transformed ideas into objects, buyers have carefully selected the pieces and boutiques have created their own identity.

Only then comes the most personal part of the journey.
